What is German Chamomile Essential Oil? German Chamomile (Matricaria chamomile), which is often referred to as blue chamomile or true chamomile, comes from the Compositae sunflower family. This plant hails from Southern and Eastern parts of Europe and grows from 60cm - 16in tall with heavily branched/furrowed stems. It is extracted either through solvent extraction or steam distillation of its golden yellow flowers that have ray-like blossoms and widely used medicinally for its many healthy benefits.

What is the difference between the German Chamomile and Roman Chamomile?

Medicinally similar as both varieties are used for calming and soothing skin, inflammation, fevers, digestive systems, as well as inducing perspiration to flush out toxins, allergens and infections. Aroma - German Chamomile smells more like sweet straw while Roman Chamomile has a light, fresh apple fragrance Color - German Chamomile contains chamazulene, resulting in its deep blue color while Roman Chamomile contains high level of esters, giving it a clear to pale yellow color. Use - German Chamomile contains more active ingredients which make it a more potent oil and better anti-inflammatory due to higher concentration of Azulene.
